About

Dominic Mrakovcich is a composer whose work bridges classical tradition and modern ambient sound. He has been commissioned for a range of projects, including the original score for Miguel Ramirez' independent film No Care In The World and the Alice in Wonderland Ballet for Northern Michigan University's Department of Theatre & Dance.

Dominic earned his Master’s in Music Composition from East Carolina University, where he studied with Ed Jacobs, and holds a Bachelor's from UMass Amherst, where he studied composition under Salvatore Macchia, and percussion under Ayano Kataoka and Thom Hannum.

He has been active in the ambient underground scene of New London, performing solo and as part of the duo Hearding Dogs and ensemble Pink Sap. Notable live performances where at 33 Golden Street, The Oasis, Strangebrew. Dominic also produced the 2023 Experimental Exposé at The Warehouse featuring punk and avante garde artists.

Dominic’s passion for composition was sparked by Howard Shore’s Lord of the Rings, a moment that inspired him to pursue a life dedicated to becoming a composer. He later shared his love of music as a radio disc jockey, hosting the 3-hour Sunday program Soundtrack Sundays with August on WCNI 90.9 FM in New London, connecting with listeners locally and nationally.

Currently, he serves as Sound & Media Supervisor at Northern Michigan University, where he supports student work through video production, sponsorships, and sound design education.
